FAQ’s about Coronavirus (COVID-19) updated for the 19th March 2020. These FAQ will we updated as developments change in line with the UK Government advice.

Understandably due to the current outbreak we are receiving higher numbers of emails and calls about customers wedding cover. We are addressing these in the order they are received, and endeavouring to deal with the customer whose weddings are scheduled to take place in the near future as a priority. Please bear with us and we will answer your questions.

  • In the first instance we would suggest speaking to your venue/service providers and ask about rearrangement or refund of any payments if rearrangement is not possible.
  • If you paid by Credit card, then contact your provider about any refund.
  • Please read your wedding policy document as this will cover most of your questions.

General policy questions

No - the policy does not provide cover if you chose to cancel your wedding under these circumstances.

No - we would only cover in the event of Financial Failure of a supplier, if a supplier cancels due to self-isolation as a result of having symptoms of the Coronavirus any costs would need to be recovered from the supplier.

If your wedding is planned for any time before 30th June 2020

Yes - subject to an insured peril, we will pay up to the relevant sum insured to reimburse you for reasonable additional costs incurred in rearranging the wedding and/or wedding reception and/or wedding services to a similar standard to that catered for by the original budget. We would expect services of a similar standard to not exceed the original invoiced costs by more than 25%.

Yes - Your policy covers you for:
1) the booked venue for the wedding or wedding reception being unable to hold your wedding due to an outbreak of infectious or contagious disease, damage to the venue, murder or suicide at the premises or closure of the venue by the relevant authority.

Yes - if the rearranged wedding date does not exceed 24 months from the date your original wedding was due to take place, Is rearranged because of an insured peril, and has to be on the condition that you have not already claimed against your policy.

If your wedding is planned for any time after the 1st July 2020

No - not if its your choice to cancel the wedding. Cancellation of your wedding policy will need to be as a result of an insured peril occurring under the cancellation section of your policy.

Yes - we will pay up to the relevant sum insured under your policy plus additional reasonable expenses, in accordance with the terms of policy.

Wedding Attendees:

If they are a close relative in the event of sickness which is evidenced by a medical certificate or written confirmation by a GP or other suitably qualified medical practitioner.

Close Relatives is defined as:
Your spouse, partner, fiancé(e), parent, parent-in-law, step-parent, son, son-in-law, step-son, daughter, daughter-in-law, step-daughter, grandparent, grandson, granddaughter, brother, brother-in-law, stepbrother, sister, sister-in-law or step-sister.

No - The cancellation section of the policy will only cover the following: -
1) the booked venue for the wedding or wedding reception being unable to hold your wedding due to an outbreak of infectious or contagious disease, damage to the venue, murder or suicide at the premises or closure of the venue by the relevant authority
2) the death, injury or sickness of you or your close relative which would make continuance of the wedding inappropriate.

Yes - If a close relative (as defined below) is quarantined in hospital or self-isolating due to sickness which is evidenced by a medical certificate or written confirmation from their GP or other suitable qualified medical practitioner.

Close Relatives is defined as:
Your spouse, partner, fiancé(e), parent, parent-in-law, step-parent, son, son-in-law, step-son, daughter, daughter-in-law, step-daughter, grandparent, grandson, granddaughter, brother, brother-in-law, stepbrother, sister, sister-in-law or step-sister.

Yes you would be covered. In the first instance we would suggest you try and rearrange with the venue or arrange for someone else to perform the ceremony if possible.

Yes we would cover your ceremony as normal. You would need to contact us so we can endorse your policy with the new dates. Subject to you informing us of the date cover your wedding reception separately at no further cost.

Weddings Abroad:

No - You are not covered for the cancellation of your wedding due to the potential outbreak or risk of Coronavirus. However, the cancellation section of the policy will cover the following In accordance with the terms of your policy.
1) the booked venue for the wedding or wedding reception being unable to hold your wedding due to an outbreak of infectious or contagious disease, damage to the venue, murder or suicide at the premises or closure of the venue by the relevant authority
2) the death, injury or sickness of you or your close relative which would make continuance of the wedding inappropriate.
Please note: - This policy does not cover travel and/or accommodation arrangements made for weddings taking place outside the UK.

Yes - not if you just choose to cancel the wedding, the booked venue itself would need to be closed by the relevant authority for cover to operate.

We would only cover this where it is due to adverse weather as per the terms and conditions of the policy wording "the inability of the wedding party and guests to reach the wedding or wedding reception venue due to adverse weather conditions."

No - we will not provide cover for policies purchased after restrictions have been put in place by the relevant authority or recommendation by the FCO.
